  Children

Children Learn What They Live

If children live with criticism,
they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility,
they learn to fight.
If children live with fear,
they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity,
they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule,
they learn to be shy.
If children live with jealousy,
they learn what envy is.
If children live with shame,
they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with tolerance,
they learn to be patient.
If children live with encouragement,
they learn to be confident.
If children live with praise
they learn to appreciate.
If children live with approval,
they learn to like themselves.
If children live with acceptance
they learn to find love in the world.
If children live with recognition,
they learn to have a goal.
If children live with sharing,
they learn to be generous.
If children live with honesty and fairness,
they learn what truth and justice are.
If children live with security,
they learn to have faith in themselves and those around them.
If children live with friendliness
they learn that the world is a nice place to live.
With what are your children living?

Young people are a great blessing.  Sunday church school is always available for them.  At 9:30 a.m., nursery-age children meet in the bright and pretty Nursery Room of the church basement.  Those older meet up on the third floor of the Education Building, where we're renovating the entire floor just for them.  After church school, all young people are invited up to the front of the sanctuary to hear the children's sermon in worship.  We enjoy when our young people carry what they have learned into worship and participate on the chancel in reading Scripture, sharing an Invocation or delivering a blessing.

Juanda Maxwell, Director of Christian Nurture, teaches, supervises teachers and conducts teacher training.  She also provides opportunities for young people to participate in lock-ins, to work on their own community mission projects, and to serve in our “Robert's Cafe” (see Community Ministries in Table of Contents).  This year, our young people donated their Church School collections to purchase clothing, gloves and blankets for our Clothing Pantry in the Micah Ministry.

See our “Young Christians” page for more details on Church School activities for young people.
