FOURTH MONDAYS: Building Blocks

IBCC recognizes that while meeting immediate needs through The Micah Ministry is part of our Gospel mandate, we desire to be a catalyst for empowering change in the individual lives and community we serve.  We recognize tremendous barriers that prevent many of our neighbors from reaching their goals, everything from poverty, systemic racism, lack of economic development in the NE, lack of affordable housing, trauma, addictions, and untreated mental illness to simple obstacles like obtaining proper identification.  In order to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God in this context, we invest in building communal power and dignified relationships.

We often have people waiting for an hour before Micah services begin so we decided to reach three life-enhancing goals:

1. Create opportunities to get to know our neighbors more deeply and build community
2. Honor dignity with life-enhancing experiences and opportunities to be heard
3. Provide a comfortable place during the cold, rain, or extreme heat where neighbors could find some comfort and experience some temporary relief.

With all of these goals in mind, IBCC creates space through “Fruition KC” activities for engaging the community both before The Micah Ministry begins serving (4:30-5:30pm), and as those services are finishing (6:45-7:30pm).
