Meet the Team

  • Rev. Mindy Fugarino, Senior Pastor

Rev. Mindy Fugarino has over 2 decades of experience as an ordained Disciples minister and has had the joy of serving in a variety of settings. Previously, she has served as a hospice chaplain and addiction/recovery chaplain, pastored congregations, taught in federal prison and juvenile justice programs, housed unhoused families in a nonprofit, and offered spiritual direction. A community organizer, she currently co-chairs our Region’s Becoming Beloved Community (anti-racism/ pro-reconciliation) Team and Tri-Chairs the MO Poor People’s Campaign, and partners with social-justice & trauma-informed organizations. Mindy also serves as the Executive Director of Intersect KC, the nonprofit managing the building as a community hub and the community-wide programming here. She enjoys exploring new experiences with her colleague and husband, Robert and their adult daughter, Karyssa. She loves cats, playing Pickleball, traveling, trying new restaurants, meeting new people, and sharing stories.

  • Kay Smith, Administrator of Office, Communications, and Volunteers

Kay lives with her partner and their two dogs in Platte City, Missouri. In August of 2024, Kay began on an academic path to pursue a masters in Library Sciences which led her to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Kansas City Public Library from January to July of 2025. During this time, she realized how passionate she is about helping unhoused individuals and working in nonprofits. "I saw how much bad is really in the world, the kind of sad you can't unsee, and I knew... I couldn't just sit there anymore." She said when asked about why she changed paths. She is a self-proclaimed 'Jack of All Trades, Master of None', who brings a myriad of niche skills to our team. When she isn't at work (and she's here far too much), she enjoys playing video games, writing poetry, archery, nature walks, baking, and crafts.
